Fashion & Style News: Mary J. Blige and Catherine Malandrino Join Forces

Malandrino and Blige

Mary J. Blige is continuing her plight to help women. She's teamed up with famed designer Catherine Malandrino to create a t-shirt collection to empower women. The t-shirts will make their debut in stores beginning next week.

Blige and Malandrino will make an in-store appearance in Bloomingdale's in Manhattan in hopes of bringing attention to Blige's FFWAN foundation where Malandrino sits on the board. FFAWN or Foundation for the Achievement of Women Now. The shirts which come in hot off-the-shoulder styles with abstract designs. The shirts will start at $39 and will be sold in department stores and freestanding Catherine Malandrino stores.

Blige and Malandrino have affectionately dubbed the shirts T-Luxe for t-shirt luxury. Now that's hot. 

Parties & Events: Help for Haiti at Valentine's Fashion Event

Couture Fashion Week is pleased to announce it will be collaborating this season with Partners in Health in a silent auction and fundraiser to benefit the charity organization’s relief efforts in Haiti.

The event will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the Waldorf Astoria, 301 Park Avenue, New York City. The fashion show at 7:00 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom.

I have a love hate relationship with cropped pants. At times I have worn them and then I have looked back and said, "Okay, what was I thinking?" Well for Pre-Fall 2010 they are back and they're looking better than ever. Designers like Yves Saint Laurent and Alexander Wang prefer a more glamorous cut, while Dsquared goes for a more casual look. Cropped pants are on the hot list for pre-fall and paired with blazers, a girly blouse and sky-high stilettos, they will make your entrance quite remarkable.

Style Reads: Idris Elba Covers Uptown

It's quite refreshing to see one of, if not the most handsome men in Hollywood on the cover of Uptown, my favorite magazine for African-Americans. The Hollywood Issue has some great features that our well worth the read. This is the example of a quality magazine with refreshing content and different covers of people we want to see. Hopefully some other magazines will follow suit.

Beauty: DKNY Goes Pure

The latest fragrance from the Donna Karan empire is PureDKNY. The new scent is combining naturalism with philanthropy. It has partnered with CARE to support the women of Uganda and educate consumers on the importance of breaking the cycle of poverty.

CARE has been helping the women of Ugnda since 1969 and has also helped women start small businesses and make a difference in their communities. The PureDKNY fragrance has Ugandan vanilla as well as dewdrop, lotus flower, Bulgarian rose, jasmine, freesia and lush orchid.

PureDKNY will hit stores internationally in the coming weeks and the U.S. in July. It will come in three sizes: 1 oz, 1.7, and 3.4 oz sizes for $42, $60 and $80 respectively. The collection will also include a $38 body butter. The ad campaign will include television and print.

I know being different is often the way to set yourself apart from the crowd but I'm gonna need Nicki Minaj not to be that different. She showed up to appear on Late Show with David Letterman looking quite bright. The aqua blue leggings and bright pink sandals almost made gag, not to mention adults with pink bunnies, fur parkas and heart-shaped glasses scare me. Again I say, "No Nicki no!"
